The best holiday homes are located in the maritime district called "Les Botigues".
There is the promenade between the sea and the old fishermen's warehouses -today converted into beautiful houses on the 1st line of the sea.
Altafulla has managed to keep intact this rich fishing and medieval past, which soaks every corner of the historic center (la Vil.la Closa) swirling on a hill topped by the castle (currently owned by the Marquises of Tamarit and that, finally, can be visited).
The castle together with that of Tamarit, at the foot of the cliff, have made Altafulla famous in postcards, books and gossip magazines. Both are part of the Route of the Castles of Gaià, which meets at the mouth of the river, in a long crescent-shaped beach more than 1 km long. It is a virgin natural complex that forms part of the Catalan Wetlands Network.
